The Great Train Ride
"Now if you think its any fun getting up in the middle of the night
to catch a train, please rethink your idea of a good time, said
Buttons."
(As you may recall Buttons is on a mission.
The mission being-
to find the little girl that used to play with her when they were
both
young.) I shall relate this story as it was told to me.
"I don't seem to be having any luck at all in the Antique shop.
I thought
perhaps I would just hop on the train and see if I could have
more luck elsewhere. I had no idea this trip would be so much trouble.
I am thankful it was night. I brought my little suitcase filled
with lots of disguise items. I did have a bit of trouble with the
bow.
By the time I got it tied, I was so tired I didn't really care.
It seems the baby didn't care either!
Thank goodness I found a sleeper car.
I managed to slip off the train, unnoticed, in the early morning.
What a nice day. What a lovely bridge. I heard all the birds
singing, saw fish jumping and saw frogs on pink lilly pads.
I have never seen the wide open country side before.
When I finally decided to stop, I was at a small zoo. I am glad I
had brought my
Steiff outfit.
The giraffe showed me all around the little zoo. It was quite nice
really.
We walked for hours and saw everything there was to see. All that
is,
except the little girl I was searching for.
I really had a good time, but the good time ended when I saw how
low
the sun was in the sky. It was time for me to go back to the train.
To make matters worse, I took the wrong path back to the train.
I passed a little stream and saw lots of little animals having their supper.
I did manage to make it to the train on time. I noticed some
very cute little
girls also waiting for the train. So off I went to the make up room.
I thought it best to wait till the train actually came before I slipped
out
and into public view. What a long wait.
As I waited, a little girl came in and sat down next to me. She said
her name was Holly Hobby. She looked like the other little
girls I had seen. I thought perhaps they might be sisters.
We had a very long visit and I told her all about the little girl
I was looking
for. It seems Holly was also traveling for the same reason. Holly
was
looking for her brother Robby.
Holly suggested I hide behind her and slip on the train.
That's just what I did. As the train sped on, we told many
stories of our past and the wonderful times we had so
many years ago. Holly left the train just before
midnight and I waved good bye.
I, too, had to depart the train at the next stop. I have to return
to
the Antique store. Perhaps I will take another trip in the future,
but for now I think life is better at home. Perhaps the little girl
will
come and visit. I will have to wait and see. If I slip in quietly,
no
one will ever know I was gone. For now, I am off to take a nap.
There is always next time."

LOVE'S OLD SWEET SONG
1884
Words by G. Clifton Bingham Music
by James L. Molloy
ONCE IN THE DEAR DEAD DAYS BE-YOND RE-CALL,
WHEN ON THE WORLD THE MISTS BE-GAN TO FALL,
OUT OF THE DREAMS THAT ROSE IN HAP-PY THRONG,
LOW TO OUR HEARTS LOVE SANG AN OLD SWEET SONG,
AND IN THE DUSK WHERE FELL THE FIRE-LIGHT GLEAM,
SOFT-LY IT WOVE IT-SELF IN- TO OUR DREAM.
Chorus 1
JUST A SONG AT TWI-LIGHT WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE LOW,
AND THE FLICK-'RING SHA-DOWS SOFT-LY COME AND GO;
THO' THE HEART BE WEA-RY, SAD THE DAY AND LONG,
STILL TO US AT TWI-LIGHT COMES LOVE'S OLD SONG,
COMES LOVE'S OLD SWEET SONG.
8-Bar Interlude
Verse 2
E-VEN TO-DAY WE HEAR LOVE'S SONG OF YORE,
DEEP IN OUR HEARTS IT DWELLS FOR-EV-ER MORE.
FOOT-STEPS MAY FAL-TER, WEA-RY GROW THE WAY,
STILL WE CAN HEAR IT AT THE CLOSE OF DAY.
SO TILL THE END, WHEN LIFE'S DIM SHA-DOWS FALL,
LOVE WILL BE FOUND THE SWEET-EST SONG OF ALL.
Chorus 2
JUST A SONG AT TWI-LIGHT WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE LOW,
AND THE FLICK-'RING SHA-DOWS SOFT-LY COME AND GO;
THO' THE HEART BE WEA-RY, SAD THE DAY AND LONG,
STILL TO US AT TWI-LIGHT COMES LOVE'S OLD SONG,
COMES LOVE'S OLD SWEET SONG.
